Equip yourself for a wide variety of career opportunities in the travel and tourism industry.
Studied concurrently with the New Zealand Certificate in Travel Level 4, this entry level programme is designed to give you a broad understanding and awareness of the travel and tourism industry. You'll learn from expert tutors, plus a wide range of guest speakers, and you'll visit a range of travel and tourism-related operations.
You'll also gain skills and knowledge in researching and evaluating travel and tourism products; planning itineraries; customer service and sales, team work, and essential workplace/industry practices, policies and legislation. These experiences will help you decide which roles or areas within travel or tourism you might wish to pursue.
To complete this Certificate you are required to complete a minimum total of 60 credits. To be a full time student you need to maintain a workload of 120 credits per year. We recommend you talk with us to ensure you choose electives to benefit your future career.
This qualification will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to work in a variety of entry level roles within tourism, travel and the broader aviation sector. These roles may include reservation consultant, visitor host, booking assistant or front desk administrator for the likes of car hire operators and tourism attractions.
This programme is the ideal preparation for the National Diploma in Hospitality Management or the Bachelor of Applied Management.
NCEA Level 2
Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. Students who can demonstrate these skills may be approved for alternative entry. Ara literacy and numeracy assessments are available.
IELTS test - General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) Score of 35 or higher (with a writing score of 14); TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) Score of 500 (with an essay score of 4 TWE); University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations - FCE or FCE for schools with a score of 154. No less than 154 in each skill; NZ Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) Level 3 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace or Academic; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PToE (Academic) score of 36; City and Guilds IESOL: B1 Achiever with a score of 43.
