    Programme highlights

    Become a leader in applied sport and science, and gain real-world experience in a sport, recreation, outdoors, fitness or education organisation.

    Combine practical skills and theoretical knowledge in both the sporting and scientific domains. Specialise in disciplines such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, coaching, personal training, rehabilitation, sport massage, strength and conditioning or nutrition for performance or special populations.

    Apply your skills, including designing training programmes, developing injury prevention measures and preparing athletes for performance, in practicals, projects, labs and in the community. In your final year, you will complete a research project.

    • Biomechanical Applications in Sport and Exercise
    • Biochemistry.

    Year 3 (Level 7)
    Students complete the following courses:

    • Community Nutrition and Health Promotion
    • Applied Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise
    • Assessment and Rehabilitation of Injuries
    • Physiological Preparation for Sport
    • Applied Exercise Programming
    • Nutrition and Metabolism in Sport

    Entry criteria

    Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

    • Have a minimum of 60 credits at NCEA Level 2 across four subjects (15 credits per subject) including English and a science subject or physical education
      and
    • Have a minimum of 14 credits at Level 1 or higher in mathematics or pangarau on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF)
      and
    • Have a minimum of eight credits at Level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Maori, four credits of which must be in reading and four credits in writing
      or
    • Have 42 credits at NCEA Level 3 from the NZQA approved subject list including a minimum of 14 credits in each of two subjects, and a further 14 credits from no more than two additional subjects or NZQA approved domains
      or
    • Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements noted above will need to provide attested evidence through an interview demonstrating aptitude, ability to study at degree level and appropriate work or other discipline-related experience
      and
    • Have English language competence to undertake this programme, which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 6.0 (with no score below 5.5) or equivalent
      and
    • Applicants must be prepared to sign a form for Consent for Disclosure of Information for the New Zealand Police. A criminal record will not automatically exclude an applicant form entry to the programme. Persons with convictions for violence against a person will not be considered.
