    Summary

    This programme will give students the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of environmental management, thus preparing them for either professional practice or further advanced study in this area.

    There are two elective options to choose from: renewable energy auditing and mineral resources management.

    Students will be exposed to a mix of theory and practical applications in both resource and environmental management, including principles relating to land, air and water.

    Course Content

    Students study either elective option A or elective option B.

    Elective Option A: Renewable Energy Auditing

    Elective Option B: Mineral Resources Management

    • EM300 Research I

    • EM307 Mineral Resources Management

    Career opportunities:

    Graduates of the Renewable Energy strand will work with current legislative boundaries such as the Resource Management Act of New Zealand, as well as cultural and scientific principles to analyse the merit of renewable technologies and conduct energy audits.

    Graduates of the Mineral Resources Management strand will develop proposals for mineral resources utilisation, analyse mineral resources management plans and make recommendations for environmentally friendly resources management within the context of current legislative requirements and taking into account cultural values.

    Satisfactory Completion

    The overall programme of study for every candidate requires 60 credits for successful completion of the graduate certificate. Individual papers may have specific prerequisites or other knowledge/skill requirements, which must be satisfied by all students.

    In order to be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management, the student will have been credited with all required papers and electives as specified in the Graduate Certificate schedule.

    The student completing the Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management will normally be expected to complete the programme (full-time equivalent) within three years.

    Notwithstanding the requirements set out above, the Head of Faculty with the approval and recommendation of the Board of Studies, may allow a student a longer period to complete the programme.

    Entry criteria

    Entry is open to those who have graduated successfully from a bachelor’s degree programme, or who can demonstrate equivalent relevant, practical, professional, or educational experience in a related discipline.

    English Language Requirements

    • IELTS Test: Academic Score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5
    • TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT): Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE
    • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 60 (with a writing score of 20)
    • University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations: FCE or FCE for schools or CAE or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill.
    • Pearson Test of English Academic: PToE Academic with score of 50
    • City and Guilds IESOL: B2 Communicator with a score of 66 NZCEL Level 4 with the Academic endorsement
