Areas covered on this programme include:
Students are introduced to the skill of writing for screen, exploring various forms and methods of scriptwriting such as script formatting, story generation and genre writing. Students develop their own ideas and produce short scripts.
Students are introduced to the art of documentary making, with various forms and methods of non-fictional storytelling and a range of documentaries being viewed and explored. Students develop their ideas and make their own documentary.
Students are introduced to the art of editing. Ideas, narrative and ideas on how to cut will be explored. Editing relationships will be covered along with workflow as it relates to a range of differently generated footage. Students develop their own ideas and edit their own and others work.
Students are introduced to the technical skills in the areas of digital media, camera, lighting and sound, using a range of digital cameras, lighting and sound.
Students learn and understand the role of continuity and script supervision; understand the role of the Assistant Director; the art department, the film production office and the film crew. Over the year of this programme, students have the opportunity to produce two to three short films as a crew working with a professional creative team.
Students develop skills in filmmaking with particular regard to digital cameras. Students will learn and understand the roles within the camera crew; principles of cinematography; use a range of cameras; lighting and laboratory processes.
Students explore the various forms of filmmaking, the history of film and the business of film, understanding the background, content and context of the film and television mediums.
NCEA Level 2 or equivalent plus evidence of skills/ability/aptitude based on application and interview
