The Postgraduate Certificate in Midwifery prepares midwives for evaluating specialist midwifery knowledge and skills, to maximise management of maternal, foetal and neonatal wellbeing.
The midwifery endorsement will be relevant to practitioners from a wide range of midwifery contexts. The Postgraduate Certificate in Midwifery is designed to enable midwives to develop knowledge and capabilities to maximise their own midwifery practice within situations of complexity, and the changing demographics of women and social infrastructure within society.
As students of the PGDipHlthSocPrac, graduates will have developed a range of flexible skills and expertise which will position them well to be responsive as clinicians and leaders. The midwifery endorsement will facilitate graduates to promote early detection and appropriate management of maternal, foetal and neonatal well-being.
The midwifery endorsement supports Midwifery Council of New Zealand’s elective education and professional activity section of recertification requirements. Completion of post graduate study will contribute to Midwifery Council of New Zealand elective education points within the recertification process. Completion of 30 credits of postgraduate study meets the Midwifery Council recertification programme requirements for continuing Midwifery education
Depending on the selection of modules, graduates who successfully complete the PGDipHlthSocPrac (Midwifery) with a B grade are eligible to apply to Wintec’s 180-point Master of Professional Practice.
